Aunt Sassy's Wedding

Vivi was in her first wedding memorial day weekend, for her aunt Sassy (Sarah). She shared flower girl duties with cousin Keragan. They were both a huge hit!

ER Drama 2010

I hope we have seen the last of Dell Children's ER for the year! Monday night Vivi was doing her usual inspection of things as I  was taking out the trash and smashed her poor little left thumb in the front gate. After assessing a band-aid wasn't going to work on this one we headed off to the ER. After arriving at 7:45 we were "promptly" seen by the doctor at about midnight. She lost 3/4 of the thumb nail and had a pretty good gash on the end, three stitches did the job and she finally got some deserved ice water after all the hooplah. No food or drink until after they make sure the didn't have to sedate her to do stitches, no fun after waiting HOURS. We went to wound care this morning to change dressings and show me how to do it, SO EXCITED about that, as waves of heat pass through me every time  I catch a glance. Hand surgeon to take a look on Monday to make sure all is well and hopefully that is it and it heals and crossing fingers that the nail comes back. Vivi gets a gold star for being a good little patient and taking care of the boo-boo, and maybe milking it a little bit too, but thats ok.

Bamboo Mania!!!

after a year and a half the bamboo has finally taken off. Last week there was 1 sprout and yesterday I counted 19 total. NINETEEN. Once again, an ignored plant blooms. I think I have found the key to a green thumb.

I am NOT a plant killer

This is perhaps one of the biggest achievements of my life. This was a $12 orchid from Ikea, bought Oct of 2008. After it bloomed i just stuck it outside and waited for it to die knowing how difficult it is to get orchids to re-bloom- and knowing my track record- not good. Well it survived the uber hot summer and I brought it in when it first froze and it has been inside ever since. Much to my surprise it bloomed, I am beside myself. Lesson learned: ignore my plants, they hate my loving attention! 

South Austin House Tree Update!

City of Austin required us to have an arborist come by and give a report on our tree- to make sure the new house will not damage the roots. AND .... the tree is DEAD! MUERTO! so sad apparently a fungus killed it from the inside out and right now it is like a supermodel- beautiful on the outside and ugly and hollow on the inside- i kid, i kid.

we are getting together images and info to update the SRD website and i thought i would share a couple of detail shots of 8th street. still waiting on getting outside pics as Mr.Freeze killed many of my beloved plants :(

Permits!

Waiting on permits for south austin house- the City of Austin is truly a test of patience and resillance- I say that in the nicest way, "I love you City of Austin, wink, wink". In other news blog changes and additions are in the works. Stay posted!
